Praise for The Memories Between Us

Editorial Reviews

The Memories Between Us isn't just an extraordinary love story. The lengths Joshua will go to for his lost love, Viv, will have you saying, "Just one more page," and unable to put it down. K.V. Peck's attention to detail and how she has written everything to have a purpose or connection have made this a thrilling and fantastic addition to the speculative fiction genre.

     -Alex Williams, editor

The Memories Between Us is one of the most wonderful literary speculative fiction I have read in years. Peck merges science fiction with a splash of romance that reminded me of films like Vivarium.

I'm in awe of what Peck has created here- a smart and tightly woven story of holding onto faith and wishes for second chances, fraught with uncertainty and the pain of memories others don't know. The stakes are clear, and we don't have a clue what is going to happen.

5-Star Reader Reviews

It's a hard read, but don't be disheartened. I persevered, and I'm so glad I did. The Memories Between Us is a love story, which, when I'm looking for a time travel book, I usually avoid. However, its description intrigued me, so I dove in. It's not just a love story, but also a time travel story, and I've never read one like it before. I couldn't give it less than five stars.

-Paul Eastley, From Goodreads Review

Wow, it was a good read. Worth reading twice, because I followed the multiple time streams better on the second read, as well as realizing more fully the impact of shifting by dying. Someone will always grieve you -- a very sobering thought.

     -Bevan Das, Goodreads Review

The Memories Between Us is imaginative, inventive, and intricate...She adds the concept of Love as a trans-universe reality. Additionally, the novel is a mystery. Keep that in mind as the waves of plot crash over you. Do not feel that you must unravel the plot chapter by chapter. Let your instincts enjoy the transitions. Try to keep it all together if you must, but do not get discouraged. You are likely to draw your conclusions...or at least hunches...as to who is who and where is where... and how it all connects. At roughly 4/5ths through the novel, a central character will lay out all that you have read, and then you are ready for K V Peck to steamroll you to the end.

In our era of streaming, one can imagine this novel and its sequels to be made into perhaps ten episodes a year over five to eight years. It's that good.

A commentary on grief—the longing of a soul who will do almost anything to get back to a lost loved one. Like the Multiverses depicted within, the novel is multi-layered. Each richly drawn layer is peeled away, revealing the characters' love story as it unfolds.

If you like time travel love stories (or not!) with many surprises, a few unexpected twists, and a satisfying conclusion, then I highly encourage you to pick up this well-written debut novel by K.V. Peck!

A Very Engaging Time Travel Book

I couldn't put this book down and read it in just a couple of days. I thought the characters were believable and could follow the time travel aspect, which can be challenging in some books of the same genre. I recommend this book to fans of time travel, New York City settings, and those who believe in true love.

     -Warren Kerper, Amazon Review

Each chapter called me to not put the book down. There's something for everyone here: a mystery, science fiction, romance, and philosophy. The author uses expert wordsmithing skills to sketch these people's lives, their times, and their surroundings. The ongoing mystery keeps one guessing until the very end. I will re-read the book.

     -Connie Loftman, Amazon Review

I love a good time-travel story, and this one has some interesting twists to it. There is a love story (two, in fact), but you don't have to be a lover of romance to get into this story. The characters' drive to get to the right time, to the right universe, is truly compelling.

-Eric Demarist, author of But I'm Not a Hero, Amazon Review

An intriguing mix of love and physics - challenging and ultimately satisfying in both realms. I love a book that leads me to look at the world in new ways. I was not disappointed with The Memories Between Us! This is a must-read.

     -Laura Kerper, Goodreads Review

Fans of the movie Interstellar will love this book! Just when I thought I could predict where this story was going, it took a new and far more interesting direction. I love the mix of scientific elements, which were explained throughout the book, so it wasn't too much at once and easy for anyone to follow. Joshua's philosophical contemplation of fate and love held a grip on me, especially in the second half of the book when the pieces start to come together.

Lovely story set in NYC

This is a terrific debut novel. A must-read for anyone who loves and misses New York City. The characters are beautifully drawn, and the story carries you with it. I highly recommend this book.

Amazing Dream-like Story

This was my first ever read of a time-travel novel. For me, the feel of traveling to other universes was both challenging and charming. I found it to be very much in tune with Joyce Carol Oates' references to dreams and hallucinations, as she described her writing as arranging and rearranging reality, much like what might happen in a dream or a hallucination. Throughout Peck's narrative, I often thought, "This is just like my experiences when I dream." So... it hit home.

Such a good choice for an introduction to the world of time travel!

     -Bev Becker, Amazon Review

This is truly a fascinating story. Like any good tale that involves shifting perspectives, it can be a bit confusing at times. If you stick with it, you'll be rewarded with drama, suspense, romance and a resolution that echoes the best that science fiction can offer.

     -Terry Mark, Goodreads Review

I so enjoyed this debut novel and highly recommend it! I'm a fan of other books in the time-travel genre (e.g., "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "Outlander") because I enjoy the mix of science and story. There was a lot to like in this novel. First, it was not over-written; the writing shines on its own and doesn't get in the way of the story. Second, it's a truly good love story on multiple levels, including Peck's love of New York City. Third, as with other books in the genre, you have to learn how to juggle its multiverse, and Peck does a good job of explaining it to the reader in a tangible way that's easy to figure out. (There's even a graphical depiction of how it works.)

(Side notes: two recommendations I would make to readers of this genre: 1) Pick up a hard copy of the book. Peck notes the date at the beginning of each chapter. Because I'm a fast reader (and use a Kindle) and often forget when I am in the timeline, I find it quicker to physically page back to the chapter break to check the date than to toggle back and forth on the Kindle. 2) Read it twice. When I read it a second time, I caught things I missed the first time around.)

     -Allison, Goodreads Review

A love story woven through time and space, imbued with enough twists, feints, and visions to keep you hooked. KV Peck has the writer's skill to bring this science fiction tale to life.

     -Artracer, Goodreads Review

This story is told with lyrical description and poetic internal monologues. The story travels through the multiverse and will have you examining your own life. How much was fate? What choices could have derailed that fate or sent you down a different path? And it's not all about you. What outside forces changed or altered your journey, perhaps without you knowing it?

Stick with this novel. A few early scenes may leave you wondering their purpose and relevance, but all will be revealed, and the pace picks up later, racing to the climax.

     -Samuel McAdams, Goodreads Review

My first introduction to multiple timelines and parallel universes was through the short story "All the Myriad Ways" by Larry Niven. Ms Peck's debut novel is a worthy addition to the subject. She has intertwined the concept of universes splitting on every decision with the desperate search for loves lost. It is a book well worth the read.

4-Star Reader Review

Part romance, part murder mystery, part sci-fi. Overall, I really liked this book. Some parts were confusing, but that's true of every story with time travel and multiple universes. I have a feeling this story will stay with me and be one that I keep thinking back to.
