The Memories Between Us: Love Across Parallel Universes

Joshua’s life with Vivica is perfect. Her lovely eyes hold the possibility of everything he wants. They marry, and Joshua is thrilled she is finally ready to be a mother. Then tragedy strikes. Joshua is haunted by the memories of all he lost and what he doesn’t know—who took his wife, crashed her car, killed her, and what their lives could have been.

Joshua designs a portal—an Ouroboros—to return to the past. He knows a mere moment can change everything, and he is determined to unbind time to give him and Viv another chance at a life together. His sister insists he should move on from his time travel fantasies, but Joshua refuses to let her stop him.
Perception and illusion veil the reality of his discoveries until the truth leads him to despair. When a dangerous and unpredictable time traveler implores him that together they can return to their beloveds, Joshua must decide if he can trust this man who would do anything to find the women they love—somewhere in time.

The Memories Between Us takes readers on a wild ride through multiple timelines and parallel universes, crossing the line between perception and reality and holding onto faith in the transcendence of love.

Journey to Adventure: A Writing Journey Anthology (Anthologies of the Writing Journey)

Triple Vision - Stories and Poems Published by The Writing Journey

We often view life, just as we read and write fiction, through one of three lenses — Reality, Speculation, Fantasy.

In Triple Vision, the writers of The Writing Journey open these three lenses wide with a riveting collection of short stories and poems that entice the reader to engage closely with an engaging cast of characters in a diverse array of fanciful tales and moving verse.

The lens of Realism transforms scenes from real life to ride the pulsating beats that drive our world today. These stories and poems create meaning from what is, with its conflicts, strivings, losses, loves, highs and lows.

The lens of Speculation extrapolates from the realm of the future or what could be to create Science Fiction and Horror stories. The action scenes escalate beat by beat to bring the reader to new heights of anticipation.

The lens of Fantasy goes beyond what is or what might be to explore our most profound connections to the unknown. The dreamlike depictions in this group of stories and poems carry us to our deepest wellsprings of meaning.

Activate your curiosity and satisfy your imagination as you enjoy these sometimes startling stories and poems of Triple Vision offered here by The Writing Journey of Naperville and beyond.

Trigger warning: There is one story in this collection about child sexual abuse.

K.V. Peck's horror story The Secret Eater was inspired by a love of horror, the fascinating neurodivergence of synesthesia, and what happens when the beauty of a murmuration becomes a murder.

Stranded A Collection of Stories and Poems Published by The Writing Journey

Stranded – to be stuck, abandoned, forgotten, left behind, trapped, marooned, held hostage, caught in a mental loop, isolated. Your choices narrow, freedoms disappear, perceptions alter. Held against your will, either internally in your mind or externally by forces beyond your control, you begin to think of ways to survive.

The Writing Journey of Naperville invites you to explore the colorful plots, characters, and settings of Stranded, an Anthology of fantasy, science fiction, romance, humor, horror, mystery, adventure, realism, dystopian, and steampunk. The psychological, emotional, and behavioral impacts of relationships gone bad, of arrested adolescence, of unresolved sibling rivalry, can drive us to search for tiny moments of redemption and escape.

The characters that come to life in Beached, Static, Heat, Cold Upon You, Fever, Rewinds, What Lies in the Cracks Between Us, Moonlight Sonata, and Quicksand open windows to the heart, allowing us to peer into those spaces where we often get lost.

K.V. Peck's literary romance story, Heat, was inspired by the smell of caramel and hot Midwestern summers, spent poolside with her kids, watching the interactions of adolescents as play transformed into attraction and flirtation. The cement-floored locker rooms were often slippery, and she was always careful not to slip and fall. She explores the effect of trauma at a time of sexual maturation and how one instance can leave people stranded psychologically and sexually. To go back to the "scene of the crime," so to speak, allowed these characters to abandon their stranded lives and find resolution and growth.
